| Supreme Court stops implementation of RFID system On January 12, 2010, the Supreme Court (SC) issued a status quo ante order that would reinstate the existing situation of the Land Transportation Office's (LTO) motor vehicle registration prior to the implementation of the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system until further notice from the Court. The SC gave the Department of Transportation and Communication 10 days to file its comment on the petition questioning the constitutionality and legality of the RFID
According to SC spokesperson Jose Midas Marquez, vehicle owners who paid the P350 RFID fee can seek reimbursement from the LTO. In a live TV interview, LTO spokesperson Merceditas Gutierrez said that the RFID fee can be reimbursed by deducting it from the vehicle owner's next registration fee.
